My Thoughts on Monat Hair Care

Hello again! I’m sure some of you have heard of the line of hair care that has taken Facebook by storm. What did stand out to me about this brand was that every product is nature-based, safe, and pure. I had tried several natural shampoos and conditioners and didn’t find any that was worth the increased price. I had noticed people talking about Monat, and some in my church selling it, but didn’t really have an interest in trying it because honestly, I thought it was all hype. I figured if people were making money off of it, of course they were only going to say good things. Although, I am not making money off of it; therefore, you will get my 100% honest opinion.

These are the products that I really like so far. First, I would like to talk about the  revive and revitalize shampoo and conditioner which both are for adding volume to your hair. I was worried about these because most volume products strip my hair of all it’s natural oils and end up leaving it dry and brittle. That’s not the case with these products. I can honestly say that I did notice a difference from other shampoos and conditioners after trying. Since I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week, I tend to get a lot of product build-up from dry shampoos and hair spray. These left my hair feeling extremely clean, yet still nourished.

Next is the Replenish Masque, the website says that it is “a repairing and hydrating masque ideal for damaged and moisture-starved hair that penetrates and nurtures the scalp while helping boost natural hair growth, improve follicle strength, and reduce hair thinning.” I haven’t used this mask long enough to testify about hair growth, but I can say that it leaves my hair very soft.

Pros: Does not contain

  • Phthalates
  • PEG
  • DEA/MEA
  • Sulfates
  • Parabens
  • Harsh salt systems
  • Harmful colors
  • Harmful fragrances
  • All manufacturing and distribution is in the USA
  • All testing is done by a 3rd party lab

Cons: Price

So, I know what your biggest concern is: the price. Let’s be real, it is expensive! But I  would rather pay more money for hair care that I know is safe for my hair than buy shampoo for $10 at Walmart that is filled with harmful, toxic ingredients. Plus, there is the option to join as a VIP and get 15% off of your order and free shipping. Monat products are very comparable in price to other professional brands. Also, they are more concentrated due to the natural ingredients, which will cause them last longer; therefore, it’s reasonable.

Acure Hair Care is by FAR the most ‘natural’ shampoo and conditioner I have ever found. I was appalled by the amount of ingredients listed in Monet shampoo! If you can’t pronounce it, it shouldn’t be in or on your body, at least thats a good rule to try to go by.

Monat absolutely ruined my hair!!!! After 90 days of use I had NO regrowth only VERY thin and lifeless hair!!!!! There is no medical reason for this hair loss….the only explanation is my committed and loyal use of monat!!!! I’m beyond upset to the point of being angry!!! I even signed as a monat market partner because I was told I would save so much money that way!!!! I will not promote a product I am so unhappy with!! I’m devastated!!!!

I am on day 8 and suddenly I am losing single strands of hair. I picked up so many pieces from my shirt and the back of the chair I sit in at home. It’s on my pillow and car seat too! I’m scared to keep going as I wanted this to bring regrowth of thinning (menopause) hair. My parts have widened and I wanted to try to reverse that.

What? Why did your hair end up thinner? What happened?

      • Tiffany
        June 15, 2017 / 8:24 PM

        My hair is thinner too.
I have been using it since March. I did some research and it the red clover extract acts as a phytoestrogen..thay can cause your hair follicle to close off. Also of you are estrogen sensitive it can do horrible things to your horomones… Even promotes cancer growth.

I have been using it for about 6 months. Love Love Love it. I do not sell it just use it. People have noticed a difference in my hair. They say it looks thicker and it shines. One lady used the word “Drastic Difference” I do not know what is in it and do not care. I know it is no worse than all the 100 different kind of products I have used in the past. No one truly knows what is in their shampoo unless they are picking a yucca plant and making their own. I do know it has made my hair healthier and longer. I do not have build up. Build up does not allow your hair to have body. I have fine hair and body is a big deal for me. I have tons of body now. For the first time since I was a kid I can wash my hair, blow dry it and go. No additional styling products or styling tools. My hair has healed to the point where that is possible now. I am sure people can be allergic to Monat just like anything else. That does not mean it is a bad hair product. Find a rep and order it one time. If it does not give you rapunzel hair like it did me then just do not order it again. No big deal. One bottle of shampoo and conditioner last me 2 months. The masque 4 to 5 months. The oil going on 6 months. I have medium long hair. Hope this post helps some one.

I am a licensed professional hair stylist. It is impossible to alter the colour of hair without chemicals. I cannot find your list of ingredients anywhere, I’m assuming that’s for a reason.

Hi Noelle, I would love to connect with you. Yes ingredients are on Monat Market Partner’s websites. Feel free to visit mine and husband’s Monat website, bertcording.mymonat.com, you can also reach me via email MLSudicky@hotmail.com. I would be happy to help you find the ingredients and products!

      Hope to connect soon!

In Jan of 2017, I began using Monat. I had thinning hair in the front, and had heard how Monat promotes hair growth. In the first 2 months,I loved it! My hair felt GREAT!! I was getting compliments all the time about how soft & shiny it looked. I was so proud of my hair!! Before Monat, when I would shampoo, I would see a few strands of hair fall out, but nothing drastic. Into the 3rd month, it began to get worse. By the the 4th month, my hair loss was awful!!! Drastic amounts of hair loss!

I tried numerous times to get answers from Monat Customer Service, which consisted of being on hold for over an hour, only to hang up from frustration, or get hung up on. I asked so-called Monat experts in Facebook groups, and even posted a video of my major hair loss, only to have it deleted, with no answers!!!

I had a cousin sign up as a VIP, and after numerous problems with orders, and the article, she tried contacting Monat to cancel her account….again, AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL customer service!!!!!

I’m disgusted, furious, and will NEVER EVER use this product again. I have also contacted the better business bureau and reported this company! I have no clue how this business stays in business!!

    • May 13, 2017 / 2:16 PM

Hi there! I’m a monat rep and I’m very sorry to hear of your experience. I have lost tons of hair before monat and now I have more hair than ever. I used the Let it grow system and used the spray every time I washed my hair. I saw hair regrowth within 6 weeks. Your hair goes through cycles just like your skin so you may experience some hairloss as it’s natural to lose 100-200 strands of hair per day. Monat doesn’t claim complete stop of hair loss as that’s not natural. As for customer service, yes I agree it’s not the best as this is a brand new company and they can’t keep up with demands. I’ve never heard anyone being hung up on and if management heard of this, this person would have been let go. Instead of going to Facebook groups to have your questions answers you should have contacted the person you purchased the products from as I keep in contact to all that I have sold to. Again, I am truly sorry that you did not have a good experience all around. I hope that one day you may give monat another chance as it is a really good product line. I would be more than happy to speak to you if you have any questions.

Hi. I am a new VIP member. I received a notice from Monat that I would be receiving my my auto-ship order last Tuesday the 15th and if I wanted to make any changes that I had until May 19th until 11:00 pm. I called them and was put on hold for OVER 45 min. I never got to talk to ANYONE! All I needed was a new password to get into my account to make some changes. So I sent an email explaining what I needed. I never received a new password. I tried to call every day for 4 days and sent emails also…. NO RESPONSE. Then on Sunday they sent me an email confirming my Auro-ship order!!!! AND THEY USED A CREDIT CARD I HAD CHANGED TO FOR MY PREVIOUS ORDER !!!! I REALLY LOVE THE PRODUCT AND HAVE NOTICED A DIFFERENCE IN MY THINNING HAIR. THE PRODUCTS ARE PRICY BUT I WAS WILLING TO PAY FOR THEM. BUT THE WAY THE DO BUSINESS REALLY LEAVES A LOT TO BE DESIRED!!!! I HAVE FRIENDS INTERESTED IN BECOMING A VIP BUT I CANT RECOMMEND THEM IN GOOD FAITH BECAUSE OF THE WAY THEY MISTREAT THEIR VIP MEMBERS !!

i just want to say that I was so excited to try Monet and the first time I used it my face broke out in hives and thankfully my husband have Benedryl so it didn’t get any worse, my eyes burned a bit so I rewashed my hair with my john freida and it stopped, so I will continue to use my $10 hair product that I love but thought it would be nice to try something new, however if others love the product then use what works for you, cheers…

Hi Christi , I also got sold on
Monat and I found the same thing!! After a couple months I found I was losing more hair then before using Monat ! I thought it was just me ! So I said I didn’t want another auto ship of this product , but I got it. I too called Monat support , they were not very friendly or helpful . Told me I had to ship it back and I would get a full refund!! Well I sent the product back in
March and have yet to see a refund ! They have there product , I do not have a refund . It is now almost the middle of May and I’m still getting the run around !!!! No answers to when I will get my money or if I ever will !! Not impressed at all ! Very poor cudtomer service !!

      • May 13, 2017 / 11:56 PM

I have recently joined Monat, and I am surprised to hear these negative comments and sorry that it is not working for you. Have you contacted the Market Partner you purchased it from? I would certainly think they would bend over backwards to help you. I have used the product for 2 months … went to my stylist yesterday and after washing, rinsing, and combing my hair, I asked her to look at the comb … she found 1 hair — ONE HAIR — left in the comb from my shoulder length hair!!! I don’t know enough of your situation to make any determination of why the product didn’t work for you …. BUT I do know that MONAT is an excellent product, it has been proven by third-party independent clinical studies, and they are getting accolades all over the U.S.

I’ve only used Monet for about 5 Shampoos and I looked this up because my thick chemically blonde hair which was healthy and I just wanted it to grow is awful now! My scalp started itching and I had to get whatever was coating my hair out so I clarified it once a week for the last 3 weeks and it started breaking off! I’m a hairstylist and was going to buy into but heck no!! I believe the review it coats the hair and damages underneath. I’m glad I had reaction right away or Id have kept using and probably have no hair eventually. Hopefully the reaction will stop soon. My scalp still itches and breaking. My expensive product is going in the trash! Thanks Monet for giving me crappy hair ! I have clients that wanted my hair before and now I look like I dont know how to take care of my hair!

    • May 13, 2017 / 2:23 PM

Donna! You were clearly going through the detox process. There is a what your hair goes through in 90 days. If you stayed with the products through your detox process you would have seen a big difference. As for the review that was posted about costing the hair and ruining the scalp and it being out in the same catagory as WEN. There is a lawsuit happening as that review is false. I would love for you to contact me if you wish and you can talk to me and I can answer your concerns. I’ve been using monat for 11 months now and the more I wash my hair the better it gets! That’s my honest truth!

Hello….i was just wanting to comment as i have noticed these comments, back and forth, and some dating to 2015! Anyways, MONAT has changed my life! I tried SO MANY products for my ‘hypersensitive’ scalp AND SKIN. Allergy testing, treatment after treatment, NOTHING worked. IT felt like bugs crawling on my skin AND SCALP! I lived like this for MANY years (probably 10 years)…I thought this is how people feel with their scalp. I got to one point where I used pens, anything i can get my hands on to scratch my head. I eventually decided that THIS IS NOT NORMAL. I started to change my diet, lifestyle of using LESS chemicals in my household, water filtration system, laundry detergent, soaps, no deodorant…etc. Then still, nothing changed, i felt just as itchy as before. SO i looked into hair care products, tried all sorts of ‘natural’ or ‘natural based’ products…no parabens, no sulphates, no fragrance, coconut based, la-di-da. My hair is naturally curly, natural red hair, dry, coarse, and itchy at ALL TIMES. So, MONAT samples came to my husband (due to his balding) and when these i arrived i treated them with no hope in the world…I have now become numb to all shampoos and conditioners ARE the same…BUT…he lOVED it, from all these products i was trying, HE LOVED this one (and it grows hair)…so I ordered it FOR HIM…THEN i tried it…first wash, AMAZING….then i thought, the itch is going to come back…1 day, 2 days no washing…4 days….WOW!!! GAME CHANGER for me! That’s all i can say. I HAVE not itched my scalp OR SKIN AT ALL. The itch disapated ALL OVER even my skin. The pens are for writing, not scratching. My scalp and skin is calm…there is NOTHING crawling, no sore scalp, no dry hair like straw and it grew 8 inches….What i learned for myself is continue to research, continue to just try and try…something worked for me and if i hear bad comments about ANY products, i need to learn about them for myself. I hope others will do the same because there are always 2 sides to every story. My story is, BOY did i suffer…I found something that did like nothing else did…it soothes, it calms, it hydrates….it CHANGED me, chemical free, no prescription…. and if this testimonial can HELP someone else, so be it. <3

Hello, I am a 43 year old white female with fairly severe alopecia (head only). I have had this condition since I was approximately 10 years old. I Have experienced everything from spotting to total head hair loss (3 times…. headed to #4 :-(). I have used Nioxin products for many years now and it is neither her nor there at this point. Someone has recommended this product to me as a possible option. So 1. I am curious which system I should be looking at (I am thinking Let it Grow?) and 2. I am wondering if there is somewhere in or around Brampton, Ontario, Canada, that I can go to buy this product. I am not interested in some VIP, auto-order, get a thousand marketing emails a day hell. I just want to straight up buy it and try it. Thanks in advance for your intel and comments. Cheers.

    • April 20, 2017 / 12:44 AM

Hi, Christine. I’m a Market Partner for Monat and I’d be happy to help you. You don’t have to order this as a VIP or be on autoship. You can try it as a retail customer with no obligation to purchase again. I would suggest Let it Grow and the S3 Supplement Support System. Also the Rejuvenique Oil Intensive is a must. I actually came across someone else with alopecia who had great results from this combo. If you’d like to order from me, my website is amytaylor.mymonat.com. When you check out, you can just do so as a retail customer and items will be shipped to your home in Canada. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at taylor.amye@yahoo.com and I can share some before and after pics with you. Cheers!

I have rosecea myself and everytime I wash my hair now with MONAT my cheeks turn a bright red and it’s burning my skin. I’m stopping these products because I can’t handle the redness on my face. Something in this line is irritating my skin. I got these products as a VIP and now I only hope I can get out of the autoship. Please be cautious if you have Rosecea.

The products absolutely protect your color. I go longer now between each color touch up. As a woman of 56 years old I was coloring every 5 weeks. Now I am back to my routine of every 8 weeks and some time 9 weeks. My hair has never looked better, felt better or had such shine. I have the hair of my youth! Love the products.

SAME ISSUE as others!!!! They are horrible to work with, horrible wait time on phone, horrible customer service, horrible response online!

Great products, awful customer service. I received some samples and fell in love with Monat so I decided to order some on January 30th. I received my shipment within a few days but the conditioner was not included. I emailed the company a few days later asking where my shipment was, to which I received a response 5 days later saying more would be shipped out the beginning of that week. Here I am, almost one month later and I STILL do not have my conditioner and no idea when it will be coming in. I’d love to start using my products but I can’t without having my complete kit. Very frustrating to pay so much and not get adequate service.

I wouldn’t recommend Monat to my worse enemy! Worst customer service ever! Have been on hold for over an hour, have emailed. Apparently they are planning to ship an order I have received two weeks ago. Do they care? No. Another $110 dollars. The product is junk as far as I am concerned. I could spend that $110 at the salon and buy the exact same thing, the difference is the salon won’t set up duplicate ‘autoship’ orders on my credit card. Bunch of bored, stay at home moms with nothing to do trying to make a quick buck. Spend your money elsewhere, consider yourself warned.

Hi I am a Hairstylist that understands customer service.
Monat had no idea they would grow as fast as they did.
My customers get their customer service from me.What the problem was that many people did not get their user name and password so they were not able to log in to their account so what I do with my customers is I get permission from each client to have their username and password saved so that they do not have to take care of their issues.
This system works incredibly well for me.
I met a distributor in Houston recently and she has 200 Vip and she takes a few minutes each week making sure her Vip are treated as Vip and the customer never needs to contact Monat headquarters.
Lets not forget the products are amazing and all new companies have challenges in the beginning.

katie, your description that a bunch of bored stay at home moms with nothing to do trying to make a quick buck ,makes me think you dont have a very high opinion of stay at home moms. Also, if these same women are trying to help financially contribute to their families financial situation AND care for their children, is that such a bad thing? Im not a stay at home mom, Im a professional, that also sells Monat. Monat has helped me contribute to my IRA, pay off medical bills, take some days off to have a little bit of a life without worrying that if Im away from work it will be financially bad b/c I dont receive any benefits at my job. You are mad at the product b/c no one asnwered the phone? I understand customer service, Ive worked in it for over 30 years- they need to improve which they are trying- they have hired more people but they have to be trained in first. I had an issue, they shipped a duplicate order, they helped me return it. Did it take a little bit? Yes. Did it get resloved . Yes. Do I love the monat products? Yes.

“bored stay at home mom.” You must not have children Katie. That is the toughest job their is as far as I’m concerned. 24/7 mom never getting a break. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a mom raising her own children and also trying to help out her family financially. That was extremely offensive. Well said B Meyer. Sorry, I love monat products but just couldn’t get passed that comment. Monat products are wonderful, work great, and are a great way for people to earn extra money. I recommend them.

While I agree there are issues with the customer service (which they have recently hired new CS reps.) the products are the best product I have ever used. The FLEX ship is completely controlled by you and can be pushed out, moved up, product changed etc. You also get a free item each month being on flex ship. I think they will get the kinks worked out soon. The price for a product this concentrated is comparable to all other products out there. The amount of water in store brands makes you use more and end up getting a cheap product full of toxins for the same price as a product that is healthy for your hair.
Reach out to your Market Partner for help.

  15. February 10, 2017 / 12:23 PM

I have been a health and wellness advocate for the past 13 years. I was introduced to this product and first became a VIP customer. After using the product for 2 weeks and doing extensive research, I became a Market Partner. Monat has proven results and endless satisfying customers. My hairdresser has noticed great improvement in my hair. What I love most about it, is the fact that it is naturally based with botanical oils to improve and regrow the hair. This product works and speaks for itself.
If I can help anyone feel better about themselves, look good and be more confident, message me and I would be happy to send you samples.
I am in the Niagara area in Ontario. I have customers in the U.S. and Canada.

Here is a long blurb about Monat

“I am beyond disgusted with Monat and their reps. They have blatantly disregarded rules in groups, blatantly disrespected admins and members consisting of stylists, other beauty professionals, educators, chemists, higher ups from other cosmetic product companies, non professionals, and have been preying on and specifically targeting hair loss victims of Wen. They have been going through member lists and spamming our members via PM. One rep had the nerve to say that if you use Monat, “U won’t need Olaplex anymore “. Clearly she hasn’t a clue what Olaplex is chemically or its function, and must not really know what’s in these products she and all the other pushy, oppressive, unprofessional, reps are trying to sell..Olaplex stops the oxidation of free thoils, stops those broken disulfide bonds from creating the sulfate group SO3, stops that SO3 from producing cystic acid, and stops that cystic acid from eating away at the protein in the hair. It does this by coupling the free thoil’s (a broken disulfide bond) single sulfur hydrogen molecule end with a single oxygen molecule, via a covalent and ionic bridge, creating a perfect pair. It cross links broken disulfide bonds. This is absolutely not comparable to Monat AT all.

Honestly, as an admin of 4 FB hair groups, most admins and members frankly are SICK of getting bombarded by Monat reps every day! We have all heard of it, how couldn’t we have, having it constantly shoved down our throats in threads, and even better, Monat reps going through our members lists and spamming our members, including the admins! And for reps to Target hair loss victims of Wen specifically in my Wen Support Group? ? It’s gross, sickening, and unprofessional. Most have no clue what’s actually in Monat!

Wen and Monat both cause build up which traps the bodys hydrolipic film underneath the build up. The oil goes rancid and an overgrowth of bacteria and/or fungus is created, causing sores, burning, itching, and can cause serious secondary type infections that lead to hair loss. Many Wen users have developed yeast infections of the scalp that burn and itch just as a yeast infection would on other parts of the body, and thousands have experienced other imbalances, many leading to hair loss. I have been telling people for months that if they are using Monat and not clarifying regularly, that they will likely experience imbalance and they may start losing hair. I started seeing reports of Monat Users losing their hair in November, and it still continues.

There are not sufficient surfactants in Wen or Monat to ever adequately remove the buildup they create. There’s a plethora of oils and extracts, but also non water soluble film formers, many ingredients which repel water, and without sufficient surfactants to properly cleanse them from the hair and scalp, the scalp and hair remain constantly coated. Monat has some growth promoters, some very mild surfactants, and Sodium c14-16 olefin sulfonate, which although is a more aggressive surfactant, it is accompanied by film formers that are not water soluble, so the hair and scalp remain forever coated. Not to mention it is FAR from “natural” like they boast, and it is not exactly safe. This leads to hair damage, depleted air flow to the scalp, the inability to exfoliate the scalp of oxidized sebum, dead skin cells, free radicals, mineral deposits, dirt, oils, and any other environmental contaminants, the buildup of silicones/polymers and oils in Wen and Monat, causing clogged follicles, bacterial and fungal imbalances, which can lead to permanent damage to the follicles, and can hair loss.

This coating of oils and artificial film formers can absolutely make hair feel and look incredible for a while, years even, because it’s masking any damage, dryness, frizz etc you may have with its coating. Over time this coating will continue to buildup on the hair and scalp, preventing beneficial ingredients from working properly if at all, exacerbating issues. It makes doing any process to the hair more difficult – the more buildup there is, it’s harder for hair to lighten, color to deposit, thermal or other chemical processes to take, etc. They can continue for months and even years with this coating constantly masking the devastation that this very coating is creating. When that coating is removed, the true condition of the hair is revealed, which is typically very unpleasant to put it lightly. Imagine doing nothing but putting lotion in your hair for X amount of time. Not good.

The dangerous part about this, regardless of what it’s doing to hair long term, is what it’s doing to the scalp. Our scalp isn’t dead like hair is, it is alive. This coating over time decreases air flow to your scalp, throws off fungal and bacterial levels, many may not even notice it for a long time, except maybe a decrease in the rate of hair growth. Some may get visible signs of imbalances on their scalp though with greasy flakes, patches, itching, redness, tenderness, breakouts, infection, etc. Regardless if you have visible symptoms of imbalances though, our bodies try to fight and protect themselves in these situations. The scalp stays coated over time, throwing off these levels, and the scalp tries to protect, heal, and fight it off. When our bodies do this, white blood cells focus on the area, and over time this slowly creates scar tissue where the follicles are, which is where each and every hair strand is born and created. Scar tissue where the follicles are alters them physically, damaging them, and hair may never grow back.

Here’s just a few of their ingredients that Monat uses:

Lauramidopropyl Betaine: a very mild Surfactant in the same family as Cocamidopropyl Betaine

Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate: Sodium c14-16 olefin sulfonate has been classified as having traces of Benzene, a carcinogen or reproductive toxin and also is created using petrochemicals. It also is not readily biodegradable. Ordinary products that use Sodium C 14-16 Olefin Sulfonate (Alpha Olefin Sulfonate) dry your hair and scalp and require heavy ingredients in the shampoo or conditioner to cover up damage done. It is a common cleansing ingredients in things labeled as “sulfate free”. It is often advertised as being derived from coconut, which yes, partially it is, but on average over 50% of it is petroleum derivatives.

Acrylates Copolymer: Acrylates copolymer is non water soluble and is composed of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid building blocks.
Classified as an Adhesive, Artificial Nail Builder, Binder, Film Former, Hair Fixative, Suspending Agent.

cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine: lt may be overly drying, particularly flor mature skin. It may also create allergic reactions like contact dermatitis in people with sensitive skin, particularly around the eyes.

      Propoxytetramethyl piperdinyl Dimethicone: film former

Benzyl alcohol: is a naturally ocurring and synthetic ingredient used as solvent and preservative; known contact allergen, associated with immunotoxicity, moderate organ toxicity, classified as toxic and harmful by the EU and Environment Canada Domestic Substance List

Amodimethicone: spreads out and forms a cross linked film on the hair when it dries, which can remain in the hair through several washings with even the harshest sulfates/surfactants. When paired with Trideceth-12 (non ionic surfactant) and Cetrimonium Chloride (cationic surfactant) in a cosmetic preparation, it is a common misunderstanding that this makes the Amodimethicone water soluble. This is incorrect. Emulsified in a cosmetic preparation, the Trideceth-12 and Cetrimonium Chloride render the Amodimethicone dispersible in water, for ease in manufacturing. Deposited onto the hair, it is non water soluble. The inorganic cationic polymer, amine-functional silicone is deposited onto the surface of the hair via electrostatic attraction between the polymer and the negatively-charged protein surface of the cuticle. Highly damaged areas of the hair cuticle possess higher negative charge density, which enhances the affinity of the cationic polymer to that specific area. So your most damaged areas are coated the most. It spreads out and forms a cross linked film when it dries. This cross linked film can last through several washings, and repels further deposit of amine-functional polymers. It can take several washings with harsher surfactants to fully remove, due to it’s electrostatic attraction. It also has
very low thermal conductivity, and a high refractive index.

Sounds really “natural”, right? It’s just another company preying on the general lack of understanding of cosmetic chemistry amongst the public and stylists, and the overall naive trust in manufacturers that most people have. The safety of a product is not just looking at the individual ingredients, or even the concentrations, or the entire preparation as a whole. Though an ingredient may be deemed safe in terms of toxicology under proper concentrations, this does not reflect the ingredient’s effects when combined with penetration enhancers (some dissolve intercellular matrix, some change the skin’s metabolism, and some damage or alter the physical and chemical nature of the top skin layer), potential buildup issues, or effects of repeated exposure- the snowballing effect of continuous, long term exposure. Most people do not realize that manufacturers are not required to test their products first, nor are they required to report complaints to the FDA. Wen received hundreds and hundreds of complaints about scalp imbalance and hair loss starting YEARS ago. Some Monat users are already experiencing hair loss as well. Are Wen or Monat taking any actions to prevent this or warn people? No.

Manufacturers and their parent companies will continue using harmful/potentially harmful, cheap ingredients unless we do something about it collectively, and individually. Please, if you get spam responses to a thread from Monat reps in any group, screen shot it, and let one of the admins know. I admin Combs, Clippers, Rants and Raves, Rainbow Hair Colour, Hair Nerds Unite, and Wen Support Group, but feel free to tag me in any of the groups if you need a helping hand. If you receive any personal messages, screen shot it and contact an admin. They often begin with,

“Hi so-n-so! I saw you in (insert group/page name), (insert compliment), have you tried the exclusive, new, all natural products called Monat yet?”

Out of the 30+ Monat reps I have spoken with (all of whom were spammers/slick promoters), not a single one even knew what actually in these products, let alone the potential long term effects if you’re not clarifying regularly..some argued that there were no silicones or film formers in them, which is completely false. They all have just repeated whatever Monat has told them to say, beating around the bush, not actually answering questions, because they don’t know the answers.

All my fellow admins, spread the word because they are probably spamming and harassing all the other groups as well

I appreciate your knowledge base. Thank you for sharing. Tell me a little more about clarifying. What do you mean to “clarify regularly?” If that were something that I did, would you be more supportive of the product? My hair is so chemically damaged, and I have tried so many things, including olaplex, I kinda like the idea of a false coating, just so that it looks smooth, not frizzy and crunchy. I have no problem clarifying my hair after a certain period of use. Also, what is the difference between monat’s unhealthy coating and using products like brazillian blow out? Thank you for your response.

Hello i would like to know if Monat is so bad for your hair and full of dangerous chemicals, and you seem very informative. Could you please tell me your recommendations for a natural base shampoo that will do the things Monat says. I would be very interested in the product that is safe. As far as i know walmart shoppers all have harsh chemicals, including salon products.
So what is it that you use. Thank you

        Michelle:

I had been debating trying Monat for awhile. There are a ton of good reviews on it. After researching the price and seeing your post, I’m not going to try it. I am a licensed hair stylist so, I do have access to high end hair care so, i will just stick with that. Any brands that you like over others? You obviously have a working knowledge behind the ingredients in the products. I have some thinning at my hairline (genetic and from wearing my hair back way to much). Hoping to find something that will help with that. Some people swear by these products but, with even the risk that it could cause hair loss for me, it just isn’t worth it. Thank you for your post. Truly eye opening

This “copy and paste” was written by a disgruntled hair dresser that did not do her homework, or simply doesn’t understand naturally based products. Wen and Monat are the EXACT opposites. In fact Monat removes all of those silicones that all of those salon products leave in the hair and coat the scalp over and over and over again, which leads to follicle dormancy! I hate that people just grab something that an uneducated and threatened person wrote.

Extensive research? Well you might want to read this:

This same copy and paste so called research has me in awe!! I received this exact same message to my personal inbox with no previous conversation with this particular person about Monat and this was back in 2015! I have seen the exact same word for word “research” time and time again! Scientific big words scare people and when it’s copied and pasted from Dr Google it’s so much more believable. .with that said..
I have been using these products for 18 mths and have friends that have used it for almost 3 years..with this so called research you would think they would be bald by now..NOPE! It has saved the life of my hair! I am so thankful I came across these products and love that I am using a safer product on my family 🙂 my hair is thicker, shinier, healthier and my stylist can’t get over how healthy it is. I was one of those that spent hundreds of dollars on products(salon professional products) and switched it up every 2 to 3 months because my hair would feel horrible. Not anymore! 18 months and haven’t switched once! I am on medication and have an autoimmune disease as well so i must be careful with even topicals that i use. Yes I am a rep but started for the product 🙂

Michelle – I’m so happy to have read your comments! I’m pretty sure I’m having an allergic reaction to MONAT. It started with itchy scalp, but the it started to get super dry all over, and all over my ears, down my neck and it’s still spreading.

I’m now ceasing all product use. It feels like my skin is infected and on fire and only started to get like this since using MONAT. Sadly, I signed up as a VIP and then as a MARKET PARTNER….I can’t get a hold of the office to cancel my VIP membership and they keep taking my money.

We are going to opt out of the MARKET PARTNER role as we just are experiencing red flags.

I have an appointment with a dermatologist as I’m pretty sure this has lead to secondary infection from the reaction. I’d love to send you pics. Or can I somehow post them here?

Wow Jessi that is terrible, i can’t believe you would wait until your skin started oozing and weeping all over your body, and i find it real odd that you keep copie and pasting the same story over and over. I would love for you to post pictures of your self,
I have severe allergies, that will send me to the emergency department and have suffered swelling of my Face tongue and throat and hives…. I have never heard of an allergic reaction that causes ozzing all over the body, I have heard of flesh eating disease and staff infection , that can cause your symptoms, if I were you I would run to the emergency department before you see your dermatologist, also staff and flesh eating disease is contagious….. hope you get well

Jessi, I had the exact same response to the product after 9 months. If you have not already, go to your Doctor. Mine had to give me topical steroid cream to help with the infection, welts, weeping and pain. It healed in about a month.

I am still trying to get my money back from Monat. They require pictures of the inflammation/damage and a letter from your Dr.

I have been using Monat for almost 2 months now, washing my hair every 3 days. I love how soft my hair is, and I feel like it has been growing faster ( possible placebo effect) but I feel like I have a lot of shedding in the shower…… like a lot!!!!! My hair feels a bit thinner but at the same time, I am unsure if it feels thinner because my hair is healthier resulting in my cuticles being closed AKA less frizz. I read earlier about someone experiencing shedding, have you heard anything more bout it? I am concerned, I do not want to lose too much of my hair!!!

the replensih masque is to be used as a treatment, every 4-5 washes, not as a conditioner , and its to be followed up with the revitalize conditioner to close the cuticle.

Sometimes ppl go thru a “detox phase” which is normal. During this detox phase, your follicles are being cleaned out, which can result in hair that was dad just sitting in your follicle, being removed. This happens to make room for new hair to regrow.

Reading the ingredient deck on the Renew Shampoo. I see listed “fragrance” (parfume) this worries me. I asked my rep (who I adore !) she said it is a blend of oils…..this does not make any sense to me at all as further down on the ingredient list is a list of the oils in the product. My worry is that stating “fragrance” is an industry trade secret where companies can hide behind “fragrance” and say everything in the product is safe when in fact there are dozens if not hundreds of very harmful chemicals hidden in the word “fragrance. If hey were essential oils they would list them in that way. Any advice
    or help me understand this.
    Thanks so much 🙂

        September 27, 2016 / 10:17 AM

Hi, Robin! I am an independent distributor for MONAT. The “fragrance” is coming from the citrus essential oils. We have to be transparent and essential oils have fragrance.

          February 23, 2017 / 7:06 AM

Fragrance is not listed to mask the use of citrus oils… let’s be serious. The citrus oils would be listed as just that, considering they are natural. It’s a marketing ploy to achieve the healthy hair care hype.

Third ingredient in all these products is PLASTIC!!! It also has glue in it. It is also the same formula that WEN has. Good luck ladies…
You’re will be breaking off cuz this shit coats the hair shaft. And if you colour you’re hair well this is very bad cuz it may never colour the same again… AND IT WILL BREAK OFF!!! And the same with using heat styling tools!

      • Jessica
        January 10, 2017 / 5:33 PM

Since the third ingredient changes from product to product, what exactly do you think is plastic? And what do you think is glue?

Lies are the plastic and fantasy is the glue? That’s very helpful, thanks… It was an honest question. I don’t need trolls to reply.

I’m just new to Monat got my order today I was shocked to see that I paid $145.00 plus shippimg and Taxes for the Balance System which is shampoo, conditioner and Masque.
when I see it on online for $129.00 Canadaian and yes I live in Canada.
The rep ordered for me and I got it today. seems to me that I might be over chargered or the price when up.
Anyone else notice the price increase.

This is THE WORST PRODUCT I have ever used.. I had long healthy hair. With just 3 weeks of using the volumizing system, it made my hair brittle and started to break right at the shaft. It made my follicle thin and I ended up having to cut my hair. My hair was fried.. It blew the cuticle of each strand like washing my hair with bleach! I am a hairstylist who was receding a bit. So, listening to a good friend who is selling this I wanted to try it for that reason. My scalp was so itchy and I lost more hair! Now I am in the process of rebuilding the health of my hair. This to me is just another marketing scheme. I know of three more people who have had the exact same experience as me, using all different systems with this Monet. I spent allot of money on this and it ended up in the garbage, as I could NEVER give it away to someone. Just to watch their hair fry.

AG products are wonderful and sulfate free. Kerasilk by Goldwell are nice for natural curly hair. You might like the Kerasilk the best for dry hair. It’s good to alternate shampoo’s once in a while too. P.S. I’m not trying to sell anything.. just some suggestions.

I have used all products including A-G becaue most importantly it lists ph levels which is very important in all hair products!! Anyone Using Keranique or WEN has definatley not done there research!! And as for my second week using only Monat renew with a lil replenish mask on my ends my hair has responded amazingly!! And do to health and hormonal issues causing severe thinning I can’t wait to buy the IRT.. my Cousin owns a salon I used her product for years and none made my hair as manageble and nice as this stufff Yay for Monat!!!!

Segal’s solutions will have your hair feeling wonderful and is a quarter of the price. I am a hairstylist and service at least 600 Seniors. I am very experienced in hair loss, including myself. There is not a better, low chemical product for your hair. 10 years ago I took my business as non toxic as the industry allows and if it says fragrance, it’s not essential oils it’s a nice toxic blend of garbage. Not to mention, all of these multi level marketing companies claim healthy for the environment yet the packaging is the biggest turn off for me. If your claiming healthy product, does the environment not matter, oooops I forgot we have to attract the ppl with marketing.
There are many options to healthy products and healthy hair without supporting this company. And save yourself huge $$ in the process.

I had thinning hair in the temple areas for years. Specifically on my right temple which refused to grow at all. I have used the IRT treatment and now after 4 months I noticed my hair is growing in that area and thickening. As a female it is very embarrassing to not have hair there. I love all my Monat products and have never had bad hair (minus the thinning issue) but my hair is super soft, shiny and I will continue to use my Monat products. Also in response to some of the other posts, I have never had a problem with my products BUT I am told you have a 100% money back guarantee for a certain time period. Will update with time frame on this.

I have very long and very curly caucasian (cuticle type) and also live in Calgary where it is extremely dry. I use a brand called Color Proof, the curl formulation. It is sulphate, phosphate, paraben and gluten free. Although it is formulated for people who colour their hair, I do not. It is hands down the best product I have ever used, and has helped me with a serious breakage problem I was having. I sometimes use the conditioner as a leave in conditioner and find that this works very well. In addition to this I also use Marrakesh oil which is an argon oil product that contains a couple of other oils, as my hair is coarse, dry, but thin , I find it absorbs well, is never greasy and does wonders for frizz (different from Moroccan Oil products which I believe to be useless). Both of these products are expensive..fair warning.

The fact that Brenda is suggesting Wen Hair care shows me she is a fraud and does not know what she is talking about. Wen hair care products are in a large class action suit because so many people’s hair fell out. So Brenda your obviusly a fake review and not much of a stylist if you tell people to use Wen!

At first I had no issues with the balance system. I have naturally curly hair, and stopped using flat irons in March. I tried Monat in part due to my husband insecurities about his thinning hair, and thought it could not hurt to strengthen mine. I started in July. I wash my hair every 2-3 days. It does say to use daily but I just do not need to. I signed up to be vip and got the notice to reorder. I justill received the mask since I have a lot of the other product. I have started to notice A LOT of hair shedding in the shower. To the point I started getting worried and took a pic. Of the top of my head this past Monday and was horrified!!!! I contacted my rep who messagwd her “up line” she relayed to me this is a good thing as its getting rid of my damaged hair for new growth. Uhm….ok….so how much more of my hair is going to fall out?!?!? Online the website does say month 1-2 shedding and tingling will occur and I am guessing Iam experiencing month 3 since I don’t use daily. I feel the tingling in my scalp as well. I scheduled a derm. Appt today and he noticed irritation. I Gave him the product list and there were no concerns to him except he said there were alot. My haircare line was the only thing I’ve changed and recommended I stop using it. With the whole Wen lawsuit happening I did do some reading and did come across when “fragrance” is listed as an ingredient it can be a mix of anything. I am not comparing the 2 products and I am not versed in organic products nor am I a chemist. I just know my hair is falling out in large amounts and my body is not responding to the products well at all. Plus, the vip every 3 months $84 minimum and overall cost is just not something I want to continue dealing with.

Im having the same issue my hair is shedding like crazy i never had this issue before im scared to continue using the product, I contact Monat suggested i should purchase the oil treatment which i have order just waiting to give it a tried, after reading your review im defiantly worried about the product

    • October 15, 2016 / 2:58 PM

Ive heard a few people make comments like this as they are in need of some scalp treatment more than hair treatment to begging with their journey. Im thinking your might have had to use another product during your detox instead of the Volume line I am sorry to hear your are disappointed.

The third ingredient in all there products is PLASTIC!!!! It also has GLUE in it!!!! This shit coats the hair shaft makes it heavy and brittle and it ends up breaking off. I tried the samples (before I did my research) and it made my hair feel and look like shit! I really don’t know how everyone else is loving their hair and loving the feeling of their hair…..? But all that ‘healthiness’ that people are seeing is PLASTIC!!!! Coating the hair shaft making it not be frizzy, etc etc…. Like wax… But it’s plastic

        December 9, 2016 / 12:11 AM

Cherie, you might be right about that. I used Monat Balancing System with the Rejuveniqe oil and after several months of use noticed my hair did not improve. In fact it got worse. Thinning and breaking off in several places. I also noticed that when I went online to research others results there were only glowing and positive reviews. That seemed fishy to me so I kept searching and found your this site. I threw the rest of the products away. All my money and hair went down the drain with those awful over priced products.

    • January 22, 2017 / 11:12 AM

You’re probably just going through a detox phase. The market partner you purchased from should have explained that to you. Some people experience dryness, stickiness, hair loss, but it is not going to last for more than a few weeks. I would say about 4 to 5 weeks. This happens because Monat is stripping your hair of waxes and sulfates and parabens, along with silicones that have been coating your hair all these years. It flushes out your follicle which could cause hair loss because of the hair strands that are stuck in there because of waxes. Give it time, work through the detox, and you will see results. i’m a hairstylist is well and was the biggest skeptic ever but I’ve been using the products since June 2016 and haven’t used anything else besides this since then.

    • January 31, 2017 / 9:18 PM

Hey there I know this is an old post but,
When you start using Monat ,it takes 1-3 months of detoxing to get all the toxins and or buildups off your head , this varies from person to person depending on your genetics, your surroundings and what you did to your hair throughout your life.. if you noticed extreme dryness with the volume system then you should have switched to the balance system with our 30 day money back garuntee ☺️ If you were using other brands for different products that could also make your detox longer or put your hair back in detox if the products had toxins in them. Lastly when detoxing if you’re shedding hair it’s because that hair was going to shed anyway. I’m sorry you had an unpleasant experience with Monat and maybe in the future you will learn more about it and how to use properly for a decent amount of time , Monat is great for most but just like anything its not for everyone either 🙂

I use Klorane. It’s an all vegetable based, based in France. Not a mass marketing product. I usually buy it direct from the company but have bought it on Amazon. Best shampoo, conditioners, dry shampoos I’ve ever used. I have long, thick, graying hair and had been struggling to keep the ends moist. Doing great now!

    July 30, 2016 / 7:42 PM

I tried a full set of samples last year – 3 different shampoos and conditioners, along with the oil. It took me 2 weeks of daily use to go through them all. And every day for 2 weeks, my scalp itched like crazy. The day after I ran out and went back to my drugstore shampoo, the itching stopped. The person who gave me the samples (who is also a stylist) said that my “scalp was detoxing.” I think that sounds like a load of…well you know what. A two-week-long “scalp detox”? I don’t think so. Not the products for me.

    • Melissa
      August 20, 2016 / 10:33 PM

It can actually take a month to detox a scalp. Depending on how much products built up on ur scalp and hair. As with any all natural shampoos ur scalp goes through a detox faze. If ur scalp was itching a little it could of been from new hair growth breaking through the follicle. The lady that gave u the samples should of made u watch a beginners video of what to expect during the first month. Also u may have been allergic to one of the natural ingredients too. My friend can’t use Monat due to being allergic to one of the oils in it. Just like ur body using all natural remedies. Sometimes it gets worse before it gets better. I have been using Monat for 5 months now and love it. I had such dry brittle hair from the age of 13 and I’m now 38 and have the hair I had when I was a child. Soft, silky, hair. My hair is now growing and not breaking off anymore.

      • August 20, 2016 / 10:41 PM

I am now a Market Partner of Monat. It has a 30 day money back guarantee with less than a 1% return rate. All natural botanical plant based products. My balance system lasts me 5 months! Monat products balances out ur scalps natural Ph balance so u actually wash less. Even oily hair washes less. Anyone who wants to know more about this anti aging hair care just feel free to email me anytime! I now have the hair I had when I was a child. Thanks to Monat I no longer have dry, brittle hair and its growing too!

I have been reading all these comments but still find myself interested. I have dry frizzy curl/wavy hair and lots of graying. I keep my hair in a ponytail all the time because im so ashamed of how wild my hair gets. I also have rosecea so i habe to becarefull what goes on to my scalp because it affects my skin. Wjat would i suggest? My hair also grows very slow. Ugh

I have been using Monat since Oct 2015 and I love it! I went from having to get my hair colored at the salon every 3 months, to not having to color my hair. Seriously! My last color treatment was in Aug. 2015. It has almost been 1 year since my last color treatment! Monat has brought back the true color of my hair, and I have much less grays. For this reason alone I would continue to use Monat, but in addition, I have also seen more growth, thicker hair, and less hair fall out. Monat is Anti Aging hair treatment systems, and it works! heathercoyle.mymonat.com

I kept hearing a lot about Monat, too, and decided to look into it. I was drawn to it because of its claims to be natural and non-toxic, and how they “don’t contain” many harmful ingredients. However, my non-toxic journey has taught me to be wary of greenwashing, and rather than just take those claims at face value, actually look at the ingredients list. I can’t say whether or not Monat products work, because after reading the ingredients, I decided it wasn’t for me. Yes, lots of great oils and natural ingredients. But, also some not natural and not safe ingredients. It bugs me when people say, “well, it’s better than the toxic stuff at walmart!” Well, ok, but if you’re truly concerned about being non-toxic, then why even bother with something if it still has any toxins in it? I’ve since found a full hair care line that truly is 100% natural, and free of toxins…and it’s less expensive, and still super concentrated (so it still goes a long way).
I guess to sum up- if you’re concerned only with getting results, then by all means- try it. I’ve heard and seen a lot of success stories. But, if you’re concerned with also being non-toxic and natural, this isn’t it.

I actually just recently tried it and hate it. I don’t know why there isn’t more negative reviews. I doesn’t foam up I have long hair and it feels very dry after using monat. I don’t color it and I have very healthy hair and using Monat mades it fall out like crazy, my friend who sells it was telling me it’s to make room for healthy hair growth, umm I don’t see it. I finished my first bottle and I’m never getting it again. Also, my scalp started to itch. I do like the oil tho but hate the shampoo and conditioner. I didn’t try any other products and I don’t plan to. It’s not worth the money or the hype. I also don’t like their business model where you have to sign up and then the auto ship to you every other month. These multi level marketing companies are just modern day pyramid schemes. The girls who sell these products don’t make much off them their real money comes from getting other people to “join their team”.

    • Robbin
      June 16, 2016 / 7:15 PM

I have been using the products since March. My hair has not grown more than an inch since 2003 due to severe scalp burns. I have had to do the Donald Trump comb over because my scalp was so visible. Since using the product, my hair is growing. It has grown about 2.5 inches since March. My balding is not visible anymore. I do not experience dryness or breakage anymore. I don’t care about who makes what money and who is on whose team. I only care that I am seeing awesome results. I am sorry you had a bad experience. Perhaps you needed a different system. I swear by this stuff and have thrown away about $300 in products I will never go back to using again (Purology, Nexxus, etc). My hair has not been this strong and healthy since I was in high school and I am now 51 years old. I wish you all the best.

I found that with Monat my hair also became a bit dry, so the woman who sold it to me suggested that I switch every other day with the Men’s Regrowth treatment one and the moisturizing Replenish, since then I have been much happier with the results. I’ve always had thin hair and I’ve been using Monat for several months now. I can’t say that I’ve seen it thickening up yet as I have hoped, but I also keep my hair long, so I imagine it will take a bit more time to notice it when up in a pony tail and such.

I thought the same thing about the lack of negative reviews. It’s just not possible that any product works great for everyone who uses it. I’ve noticed most of the reviews are from hairstylists and others that sell the products and I don’t believe any of them after the poor results I received from using the products. I didn’t like the shampoo which lathered but was supposedly sulfate free, the leave in conditioner felt awful and dried out my hair. The products didn’t work for me and I won’t buy them again.

      • January 22, 2017 / 11:19 AM

The products lather because of the coconut oil. And if you did not like what you were using, it may have just been the wrong combination for your hair type.

    • Charlene
      January 15, 2017 / 10:56 AM

I hate it when people call network marketing scams. It’s exactly like buying professional haircare in a salon. The products have a markup of like 75%. Trust me, I used to sell to salons. And guess what? I made huge commissions and the company still made profit. How is this any different? I am not involved with Monat but I do love the product.

I have the thinnest, flattest hair, and when I ran my hands through my hair, clumps came out. After 4 weeks, there are no more clumps and my hair is healthy. I do agree with another poster however that diet has alot to do with the health of your skin, nails and hair. As far as foaming up? This product foams. Monat is not for everyone..nothing is. My question to anyone complaining about it: Why did you not ask for a refund with the money back guaruntee?

I’ve been using Monat for six months and I love it! I actually signed up just to get my discount and I’ve noticed a huge difference in my hair as well as a ton of regrowth in my areas where I tend to thin out like the front top and sides by my ears. My hair is a lot shinier and softer and it grows a lot faster and I’m extremely pleased with the results it’s given me. Yes it’s on the pricier side but it’s worth it when it comes to my hair and acually seeing a lot of hair growth and results and I also loose a lot less hair every day it’s not all in my brush like before!

What about thinning hair due to medication? Will it help my hair? I have the Revive Shampoo and Conditioner and the Leave in Conditioner. Haven’t used it faithfully yet as I am a Pureology girl.

I too have the same question. My physician recommended it to me after two of their patients had success with it but I tried calling the Monat global line and waited half an hour for the phone to get disconnected. Does anyone know the answer to this question ??

You need to hook up with one of these reps. This stuff works. I have absolutely nothing to gain by saying this. My sister turned me on to it since she knows the problems I have had. I used Wen for several months and begin losing my hair. In tears, my husband convinced me to try Ovation. I did for several months and it was okay but not great. I even thought about Rogaine until I found out any progress goes away when the treatments stop. I begrudgingly tried Monat at my sister’s persistence. It took about two weeks to realize that I loved it. I have now been using it since March and absolutely love the results. My hair is easy to manage, it is so healthy, and the growth is like I have not seen since adolescents.

    • September 1, 2016 / 2:52 PM

The only reason i looked into the company, was because my sister has MS and her meds had her once thick beautiful hair, down to a fraction of what it was. She and I have been using the products since late December 2015 and her hair is more then 50% back to it’s original thickness. She gets compliments all the time and people wondering how she got it so shiny and thick. She now uses the IRT shampoo, with IRT spray and adds the revitalize conditioner.

I also use the oil but as a pre treatment b4 showers leaving for 15-25mins.. scalp is no longer visible and my hair is soooooo manageble actually threw out my other leave-in conditioners and other oil products already!!

My shampoo bottle lasts about 6 months and I wash my hair every 2 days. I had hair regrowth after about 3 weeks. Best stuff I know. Hair and scalp very clean not weighed down. Also…..I was skeptical at first. I got samples and was wowed by them. So I decided to join as a rep just so I can get 30% discount for myself . I did buy the kit that had everything so I could try it. Now people I know tell me my hair looks great, what are you using? I tell them Monat. They want it. I don’t have to do much but show them my before and after pictures and they are convinced. You can visit my website if you want to know more or to sign up to buy it. It’s awesome! !! Visit http://www.wendy8.mymonat.com to know more. Seriously it works.

I just started using these products so can’t give any recommendations yet. My issue is you pay $20 to be a VIP member, and then only get the 15% discount if you spend $84 or more. Same with free shipping. You have to spend $84. You have to order at least 3 times in 6 months to maintain your VIP status. That’s a lot of product. That’s where the money gets made. Customers maybe ordering just because they don’t want to lose their VIP status. I can’t seem to get any information on shipping if you just want to order something without being a VIP.

    • Cara
      June 10, 2016 / 9:01 AM

Amen! That is rarely mentioned when talking about being a VIP. You have to have monthly autoships and you have to call the company if you want them cancelled. Otherwise, they store your card # and keep sending you monthly shipments. I tried ordering without the autoship and they are charging $9.99 for shipping. Crazy!

    • September 6, 2016 / 5:18 PM

I’m sorry you weren’t told about the requirements upfront. I tell everyone all the requirements of being a VIP because that’s the right thing to do. Depending on a person’s needs and product usage, the VIP program is not always the best option. I have customers who do not use that much product, so they choose to purchase at retail. I know you left this comment a while ago, but if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

    • October 15, 2016 / 3:05 PM

It may seem like a lot of product but for many it is the ability to begin adding other products to their routine such as get a shampoo system one month and the oil the next then by the 3rd shipment you might want to get some styling products or be so in love that you want to sneak the mens line into your shower for your husband.

Why not just use live clean products? They are less than $10 each and are 95-98% organic and biodegradable? I have used this line for haircar, body wash facial products they are all good. No one needs to pay such high prices for hair care. As far as being comparable to professional products that’s not saying much since several of those so called professional products contain Sulphates, artificial colors and fragrance.

Ill Tell you! Ill tell you! Eat properly. Work out, keeping your cardiovascular health in mind. Meditate. Take time for yourself. Remove toxic people, jobs, vices, etc from your environment. Be good to others and share. Be a part of reducing the carbon foot print these products and their packaging leave for our children’s children’s children and stop spending your hard earned money on hair products. Its not your liver or your organs we are talking about! Its keratin-ized protein in small strands that our evolutionary ancestors helped us develop to provide warmth which will phase out as the earth warms. Hair loss is almost ALWAYS systemic: medications, illness, stress, genetics. Meaning its what goes on INSIDE our bodies. Take care of that and your hair will grow. OR, you’ll get old and it will fall out. Life…its life.

Really. You’re not selling it – to make that more plausible you should not have included a link for purchasing at the end of your ‘review’.

    • April 6, 2016 / 12:43 AM

Why wouldn’t I include the link to buy the products? I do with every other product review that I do. The only reason I included that link was so that I could help my friend out who I have been getting the products from. If people were going to purchase the products because of seeing my review, I definitely would want my friend to make commission since she has been the one informing me about the products. These are my honest thoughts on the products, but you may think what you want to think.

It expensive because people make money when you buy it. Too bad it’s not sold at all stores.

    • Cindy
      March 30, 2016 / 12:31 PM

You don’t think that the company’s make money off the products you buy from the stores? Direct sales is about eliminating the middle man, so that the sales person can be properly recognized. In Canada, as a VIP customer you get typically 3 products for $110 and the products last approximately 3 months, so that’s about $12 per month per product, sounds pretty reasonable to me.

      • October 15, 2016 / 3:07 PM

Its average 40c a wash when you purchase retail in a system of $129

      June 10, 2017 / 10:01 PM

Another person that wants to make the fat wallet of a CEO even fatter. They are all middle men, and you are paying more because of them. I don’t understand how people that are living in the year 2017 doesn’t understand this yet!

        June 13, 2017 / 8:54 AM

My thoughts exactly! Multi level marketing used to be called “Pyramid sales”…easy to understand yet people still get entranced with the idea of $$ made without work done. In our area, the market partners have this line…”Ive got 5000.00 dollars to show for my efforts.” Its always “5000.00”…that must be the magic number that draws folks in.

I’ve been a hairdresser for 30 years. Products come and go. What I CANNOT understand is my fellow hairdressers getting on the wagon of MLM. We have suites to sell professionally created (by hairdressers and chemists in tandem) and peer reviewed with education and support behind the product at 100% mark-up and Stylists are selling a product developed and marketed by a MLM mega company!

Do the work. Buy your retail, have it shipped, pass those costs on to the buyer and make your money the professionally executed way with support and education of your product line. Be flexible if they need products you don’t have on hand and teach them how to use finishing. It sells and turns over rapidly.

I still apply the knowledge I was taught all those years ago: I support, educate, hold up the concept of professionally created products sold in fine salons by professionals.

        The end.

Hi there ! Are you still using Monat? How do you feel about it now? Have you heard of any negative reviews?

    • December 10, 2015 / 2:27 PM

Hello! 🙂 It’s in the rotation of shampoos and conditioners that I use. I still really like it, I only wish it wasn’t so expensive. Although, I guess you pay for what you get! I haven’t heard of any really bad reviews, only people saying that it didn’t live up to the hype that everyone was saying. I think that it just depends on the person because everyone’s hair is different and it may do much better for some than others. 🙂 I stopped using the mask because I thought it was actually thinning my hair, but I still really like the volume shampoo and conditioner. 🙂

  38. August 3, 2015 / 3:40 PM

I agree that the price seems high, but the thing that customers need to be aware of, is that the product is highly concentrated. You only need to use between a dime to a quarter size amount, depending on the thickness and length of your hair. I started with the Volume Line the 6th of April, and I probably wash my hair 4-5 times a week. I am just now finishing up my original bottle of shampoo and conditioner. So four months for one bottle of shampoo and conditioner, to me that makes it very reasonable

    • October 15, 2016 / 3:08 PM

My first system and bottle of rejuveniqe was purchased in March, I have only bought one more bottle of shampoo since then and today opened another masque while still having leave in conditioner and some oil left from initial purchase. This stuff goes a long way.
